เชื้อเพลิงชีวมวล ที่ผลิตขึ้นจากเศษวัสดุเหลือใช้จากธรรมชาติ และเศษไม้ที่เหลือจาการแปรรูปไม้ โดยมากมักจะมีคุณสมบัติแตกต่างกันตามแหล่งที่ผลิต ซึ่งมีพันธุ์ไม้ที่แตกต่างกัน โดยไม้ที่นิยมนำมาผลิตคือ ไม้ยาง มีมากในหลายอีสานและ ภาคใต้ ไม้สัก ไม่มะม่วง ไม้ลำไย ไม้พะยูง เป็นต้น
